The Story Behind Fiber Pearls

The name Fiber Pearls was inspired during a weekend workshop where I first learned to spin art yarn. As coil-spun yarn is plied, small rounded beads of fiber naturally form along the strand—soft, luminous shapes that immediately reminded me of a favorite piece of jewelry: a classic string of pearls.

Those pearl-like forms captured everything I love about handspun yarn—its beauty, individuality, and quiet elegance. Each strand tells its own story, shaped by fiber, motion, and hand.

From that moment, Fiber Pearls was born—a name that reflects both the visual poetry of art yarn and the belief that fiber, when crafted with intention, becomes something rare and meaningful.

A Lifelong Love of Making

I have been a maker for most of my life, learning to sew by hand, knit, and crochet at a very young age. Sewing was my first great passion, followed over the years by knitting, crocheting, crewel work, beading, rug hooking, weaving, and ultimately spinning. For the past sixteen years, spinning has been my primary fiber art and creative focus.

Why Handspun Matters

Handspun yarn is inherently unique—no two skeins are ever exactly alike. Each one carries its own personality, shaped by the fibers used, the wool blend, added textures, and the hand that created it. Working with handspun yarn brings a sense of life and movement that commercial yarns simply cannot replicate, making every project feel more personal and expressive.

Thoughtfully Made, One at a Time

Spinning yarn by hand is a labor-intensive yet deeply joyful process. At Fiber Pearls, my goal is to create uniquely beautiful yarns worthy of becoming heirloom pieces — materials chosen for projects meant to be treasured for years to come. For those who do not engage in the fiber arts, I also offer a limited selection of handmade items crafted with the same care and intention.

Fiber Pearls is a small cottage business, thoughtfully run from my home in southwestern New Hampshire. Inventory is intentionally limited as I grow carefully and learn what fellow makers and collectors value most.
